RAIDIX Introduces Patented Adaptive Read-Ahead Algorithm to Increase Storage System Performance


New adaptive read-ahead algorithm allows organizing fast data input-output in the storage OS and automatically configures storage parameters on the fly when the workload changes. Implemented in RAIDIX 4.7 storage management software, it has been protected with the patent, obtained by RAIDIX Research Lab.

New read-ahead mechanism allows anticipating what data will be queried next and moves it from slower hardware (HDDs) to faster storage means (RAM, SSDs). It also efficiently employs storage cache resources, which can reduce data access time and speed up the overall performance of the storage system. The read-ahead algorithm determines the address sequences in incoming requests and assigns them with unique pre-read values depending on the speed of each stream.

The adaptive read-ahead algorithm is currently employed in RAIDIX 4.7 storage management software. It is implemented for HDD arrays and will be useful when working with multi-threaded sequential workloads: storing and providing access to records from video surveillance cameras, work with multimedia, namely in the services of streaming video to a variety of clients, as well as when shooting and editing high-resolution video.
